Feb. 17: Invite to Hearing on Dredged Sediments from Cleveland Harbor

Thanks to those who submitted comments in December pertaining to the Corps of Engineers’ proposal to dispose of sediments by putting them into Lake Erie. On February 17, 2015, there is an opportunity to participate in a public hearing to voice support for a safer disposal method rather than open lake placement. Here’s the info that the Corps of Engineers provided:

Corps of Engineers to host public hearing regarding open lake placement of dredged sediment from Cleveland Harbor

Buffalo, NY — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District is scheduled to host a public hearing Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Burke Lakefront Airport (West Concourse), 1501 North Marginal Road, Cleveland, OH 44114-3737, from 5:15 – 9p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to anyone wishing to make verbal comments in person for the official record regarding the proposed open lake placement of dredged sediment from the upper federal navigation channel of the Cuyahoga River.  This meeting was requested as a result of the public review period (November 17 through December 17, 2014) of a Clean Water Act Section 404 Public Notice on this proposed action.    Those who wish to speak may register at the meeting.  Each individual wishing to make verbal comments shall be given three (3) minutes and a stenographer will document verbal comments.

The public hearing agenda will be as follows:

  • 5:15 – 6:00 – Public hearing sign in / verbal comment sign in / poster board session
  • 6:00 – 6:30 – Opening remarks from Buffalo District Commander, LTC Karl Jansen and presentation regarding the proposal
  • 6:30 – 9:00 – Verbal comment period

The USACE will be available to the media in advance of the public hearing from 5:15 – 5:50 p.m.
