New Threats to Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands represent one of the world’s great natural wonders.  Located about 600 miles due west of Ecuador, the islands are a product of a volcanic hotspot on the floor of the Pacific that  continues to erupt at irregular intervals. ➡ July 11, 9 AM – 12 PM : Mentor Headlands Beach & Dunes. We will once again revisit Mentor Headlands Beach the weekend after July 4th, for a Naturalist Hike of the Dunes, followed by a Beach Cleanup. ➡ July 16, 7 PM: The Future of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Hudson Library & Historical Society, 96 Library St., Hudson. Hear about future plans for Ohio’s only national park when recently -appointed Superintendent Craig Kenkel speaks at the Hudson Library & Historical Society on Wednesday, July 16 at 7 p.m.

Kenkel is responsible for about  managing the 30,000 acre Cuyahoga Valley National Park  as well as Canton’s First Ladies National Historic Site and the President James A. Garfield’s National Historic Site in Mentor.  His specialty is historic preservation of architecture and parks in urban areas.  Prior to coming to CVNP, Kenkel was Superintendent at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

Meetings

Executive Committee meetings begin immediately after the 7 PM Conservation meeting. Meetings will be held at Lakewood Library Main Branch on 15425 Detroit Rd on the first Wednesday of each month.

Green Transportation Committee meets the first Mon. of each month at 1 PM in the Linking Employment Abilities and Potential offices at 2545 Lorain Ave. Please contact Akshai Singh for more information: akshai.singh@sierraclub.org.  State Transportation calls are on the fourth Tues. of each month at 6 PM. Contact Akshai to get on a call, or to connect with Ohio cycling advocacy.

Rainforest Committee typically meets every month on the third Sunday of the month. Call Michael Melampy at 440-826-2263 for time and place.
