NEO Sierra Club’s Response to Passage of SB 310

The recently passed SB 310 freezes the clean energy and conservation standards for two years and calls for a commission to study the necessity for these standards. In order to make legislators accountable for voting for this terrible bill, the NEO Sierra Club is distributing a flier in each district where legislators voted for SB 310 explaining who voted for SB 310 and what that vote means for clean air, water, and a livable planet. Sierra Club’s Water Alert Reporting Network (WARN) Reports First Incident in North Olmsted: SSOs, CSOs, and Community Response

On the evening of Monday, May 12th, an intense storm dropped more than two inches of rain in North Olmsted, Ohio on ground which was already saturated from previous rainfall. Flooding affected many of the city’s homes, businesses, parking lots and streets, and local news outlets featured photos of partially submerged cars and pick-up trucks at Great Northern Shopping Mall the next day. The Rocky River Valley was flooded badly, too. Ohio EPA Decision Clears Way For Cleveland Harbor Dredging

Ohio EPA’s Section 401 water quality certification allows the Corps of Engineers to dredge up to 225,000 cubic yards of material and deposit it in the designated confined disposal facilities, as it has done since the early 1970s. No dredging material can be placed in the open lake. Read more…
